The European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP-AHA) is part of the European Commission’s Innovation Union Strategy that aims to enhance European competitiveness and tackle societal challenges through research and innovation. The Innovative Union Strategy is one of the Europe 2020 flagship initiatives.

The European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing brings together stakeholders from diverse fields across Europe (research, healthcare, industries, etc.) to mobilize financial resources, identify barriers to healthy and active ageing, and deploy innovative tools to tackle the healthcare concerns of older citizens. It has set out to extend the lifespan of EU citizens by 2 years.

The EIP-AHA aims to ensure a win-win-win scenario that rests upon:

i)                improving the health and quality of life of the elderly,

ii)                contributing to the sustainability and efficiency of health care systems, and

iii)               securing market opportunities for business.

The Partnership focuses on three distinct areas of work:

i)              prevention, screening and early diagnosis,

ii)             care and cure (integrated care) and

iii)            active ageing and independent living.

Participation in the EIP-AHA can take place through several routes: “Invitation for Commitment”, “Invitation for Expression of Intent for Candidate Reference Site”, “Marketplace for Innovative Ideas” and lastly, “Innovation Support”.
